Alessandro Moroder

Alessandro Moroder (b. 1989) is a Los Angeles-based artist working across painting, sculpture, and installation, with a practice centered on genealogy, memory, and the body's traces. His father is from Northern Italy and his mother from Central Mexico, and much of his work grows out of pilgrimages to two mountain ranges tied to that dual heritage, which he treats as sites for excavating personal identity, physicality, and ritual. His monochrome paintings function as recordings of performance and labor, often made using unconventional materials like silk chiffon or cheesecloth in place of traditional canvas, so that the surface itself becomes an index of the artist's body and process. He has held solo exhibitions at Rolando Anselmi in Berlin, FIFI Projects in San Pedro and Mexico City, and ASHES/ASHES in New York, and his group exhibitions span galleries in Copenhagen, Salerno, Milan, and Paris.
