Minia Biabiany

Minia Biabiany is an artist, filmmaker, and education researcher whose practice explores how the body's perception is entangled with land, space, and history. Working primarily in installation and video, she draws on weaving as a paradigm for narrative and language, shaping poetic and political works rooted in self-understanding and healing.

Biabiany's installations trace the lingering effects of colonial plantation systems and forced assimilation in Guadeloupe, often turning to plants as guides toward silence, lost knowledge, and forgotten histories. In 2016, she founded the collective project Semillero Caribe in Mexico City, and continues this pedagogical work through Doukou, a platform for exploring Caribbean thought through the body.

Her work has been presented at the Centre Pompidou and Palais de Tokyo (Paris), the 10th Berlin Biennale, the 36th Bienal de São Paulo, Signal Center for Contemporary Art (Malmö), Kunstinstituut Melly (Rotterdam), and Manifesta 13 (Marseille), with solo exhibitions at Kunstverein Freiburg (2021), La Verrière (Brussels, 2020), and Le Magasin des horizons (Grenoble, 2020). She is a recipient of the 2018 Horizn Award, the 2019 Prix Sciences Po Paris, and the 2019 Tout-Monde festival award for visual arts.
