Nika Shumeiko Ukrainian, b. 2001
Born in 2001 in Reshetylivka, Poltava region, the artist studied at the Mykhailo Boichuk Kyiv State Academy of Decorative and Applied Arts and Design from 2018 to 2023, where she received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Monumental and Sacred Art. In 2022, she was awarded a scholarship from the President of Ukraine for young masters of folk art in the field of vytynanka (paper cutting).
Since 2023, she has worked as an art manager at Dymchuk Gallery in Kyiv. Her artistic practice encompasses graphics, painting, photography, and object based work. She works with natural and repurposed materials, including soil and vegetation, as well as meteorological phenomena. Through these elements, she explores the boundaries between the spontaneous and the controlled, the natural and the artificial.
Her work brings together observations of environmental change with reflections on corporeality and the human relationship with the natural world. She lives and works in Kyiv.
