Krystyna Melnyk b. 1993

Overview
Krystyna Melnyk was born in Melitopol in 1993 and now lives and works in Kyiv. She graduated from The National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture (2018), the monumental painting department.
In 2019, she added a course in contemporary art at KAMA.
In her practice, Krystyna works with images that use the double power of icons. She rejects the narrative concept in figurative painting and chooses a combination of different semantic layers.
Krystyna studies the sacred through the image of the suffering body, which also plays a significant role in her practice. She uses levkas, soil, which is traditionally used in icon painting.
She is nominated for the Pinchuk Art Centre Award 2022.
