Jose Davila Mexican, b. 1974

Overview

Jose Davila is a Guadalajara-based sculptor whose practice tests the structural and philosophical limits of modernist form. Working with combinations of stone, glass, cardboard, concrete, and rope, his works introduce precarity and tension into arrangements that appear simultaneously monumental and provisional, a balance that is never stable, always negotiated. His work has been exhibited at the Museum Haus Konstruktiv in Zürich, Art Basel, Frieze, and MoMA PS1, and is held in numerous significant public and private collections. He is widely regarded as one of the most important sculptors working in Latin America today.
