Brilant Milazimi b. 1994

Overview

Brilant Milazimi (b. 1994, Gjilan, Kosovo) grew up in the long shadow of the Kosovo War, absorbing stories of violence, displacement, and survival. His dreamlike, yet visceral paintings process the psychological residue of this history, creating landscapes of repair where bodies—fractured yet resilient—attempt to piece themselves back together.

In Psycho Landscapes, Milazimi’s figures inhabit uncanny spaces charged with possibility. These works, created in an abandoned house in the Bronx slated for demolition, speak to the impermanence of architecture as both a vessel of memory and a form of erasure.

Storefront Viewing Room is a fundraising initiative by Storefront for Art and Architecture designed to spotlight artists whose work features histories from a broad range of environments. Utilizing gallery viewing rooms, this series fosters mutual support between artists and Storefront  through the auction sale of artworks, with all proceeds solely benefiting these two parties.

Storefront thanks kurimanzutto for the trust and support as the first partner of the Viewing Room series.

Storefront for Art and Architecture was founded in 1982 by artists and architects in downtown New York, and has chronicled the changing landscape of the city for over forty years. It remains committed to producing and presenting work about diverse notions of place and public life with year-round exhibitions and programs in and outside of Storefront’s gallery space at 97 Kenmare St.
