War and peace in a new project of famous Ukrainian artists

The results of the first Ukrainian art-tour «MAKE ART NOT WAR» will be shown in Kiev

Seven famous Ukrainian artists will present their works created during the art-tour «MAKE ART, NOT WAR» on the island of Cyprus. The project participants were Mikola Matsenko, Myhaylo Deyak, Stepan Ryabchenko, Vasily Ryabchenko, Victor Deysun, Anna Valieva and Elena Ryzhykh.

Within seven days in April they lived and worked in the old ethnic farmsteads in Cyprus. The result of the trip was 25 works, which embodied the emotions and thoughts of the authors on war, peace, beauty, history. Exhibition «MAKE ART, NOT WAR» will open in the gallery "Mystetska zbirka" on May 28. On May 29, a multimedia space Fedoriv Hub will present a catalog and the presentation of a documentary about the project. The evening will be leaded by a TV hostess Alla Tulinska.

The curators of the project Maxim Voloshin and Dmytro Struk convinced that during war the art is particularly important because it’s one of the main spiritual and moral values that unite the nation. Therefore, the main purpose of the event is to shift the focus of public attention from war events on cultural renewal and support the Ukrainian artists. The island of Cyprus was not chosen by chance, because Ukraine somehow repeats its history, remaining a historical territory as a result of hostilities.

Also curators believe that this art-tour became an important step in the formation of a professional circle of associates and implementing qualitative changes in the arts and culture of Ukraine.

"In today's world, the artists are public people, active community leaders who are able to shape public opinion, introduce new ideas and significantly affect the socio-political situation in the country. In Ukraine the art also begins to play an important role in socio-political processes. And our project is an important step in this direction ", - said Maxim Voloshin.

"With this project we wanted to show the power of contemporary art and to draw parallels between our countries. Cyprus proves that only a consistent European movement, development and reforms in all areas can be the vehicle for qualitative changes in Ukraine ", - says Dmitry Struk.
